LAST WEEK: Last week saw Gonzaga University fall in a pair of 2-1 West Coast Conference road matches to Loyola Marymount University last Friday and Pepperdine University this past Sunday. Sunday's defeat was even tougher to digest as the Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead late in the match but the Waves rallied with two goals in final 10 minutes to hand the Zags their six straight defeat.

COMING UP: Next weekend, Gonzaga University will head back down to southern California for the third time this season, facing West Coast Conference foe University of San Diego Oct. 30 before facing Big West Conference member UC Irvine Nov. 1. The Zags will then close out the regular season at home against Santa Clara University Nov. 7.

SCHEDULE PROVIDING TOUGH TESTS: The 2009 schedule has provided its far share of tough tests for Gonzaga University and first year head coach Amy Edwards. So far this year the Bulldogs have faced five teams that made appearances in last season's NCAA Tournament, four of the five contests were played on the road. The Zags also just closed out a streak that saw them play seven consecutive matches on the road, five of the matches were decided by one goal as the Bulldogs went 1-6 during that stretch. The remainder of the schedule won't get any easier for the young squad as two of the five remaining opponents have been nationally ranked at point this season.

ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO: The University of San Francisco enters Friday's match at Gonzaga University with a 6-3-5 overall record including a 1-2 mark in West Coast Conference play. The Zags have won three of the last four meetings with the Dons but USF continues to lead the all-time series 12-4-0. Kristina Hall paces the club with four goals and nine points while keeper Kelly Pohle owns a 0.76 GAA with four shutouts this season. Head coach Mark Carr is in his third season at USF and owns a 13-29-10 career coaching record at the school.

ABOUT SAINT MARY'S: Saint Mary's College enters the week with a 9-7 overall record including a 1-2 mark in West Coast Conference play and will face No. 2 University of Portland in Portland on Friday prior to facing Gonzaga University Sunday. The Gaels lead the all-time series with GU 10-5-1 but the Zags have posted a 4-0-1 mark in the teams last five meetings. Jessica Menzhuber enters the week third in the WCC with 10 goals while keeper Tara Larson owns a 1.38 GAA. Head coach Kai Edwards is in his first season at SMC.

EDWARDS RECORDS CAREER WIN NUMBER 50: Gonzaga University's 2-0 win over Eastern Washington Sept. 6 was the Bulldogs' first year head coach Amy Edwards third victory with the Zags and the 50th win of her career. Edwards came to Gonzaga with 47 career victories with all coming during her four-year stint at the University of Tulsa and currently owns a 53-34-6 career coaching record.

CONRAD CONTINUING CAREER YEAR: Lori Conrad came into her final season at Gonzaga University with three career goals and has since doubled her career total with three goals to go along with her seven points, both tied for team-highs. The Richland, Wash. native has found the back of the net each time via header, twice off of corner kicks from Sheridan Jones in each of the season's first two matches and once off of a Morgan Manchester throw in the win over Eastern Washington University. J

ONES CLIMBING THE CHARTS: 2009 preseason All-West Coast Conference selection Sheridan Jones is once again producing another solid season for Gonzaga University. The Hillsboro, Ore. native and All-WCC first team honoree from a year ago is also putting together a very impressive Gonzaga career. Jones added her second goal of the season last weekend and enters this weekend with eight total points. Her team-leading four assists give her nine for her career which puts her in a tie for the third on the Zags Top-10 career assists chart. With her eight points this season she now has 23 career total points, putting her tenth in the school's Top-10 career points list and with her 22 shots registered this season she is now in sole possession of fourth place on Gonzaga's all-time list for shots taken in a career.

MAKING THEM COUNT: Sarah Rhodes is once again tied for the team-lead in goals (3) after posting two match-winners Sept. 17 and 20. With the scored tied at 1-1 in the match against Seattle University, Rhodes found the back of the net with less than five minutes remaining to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead they would not surrender. In the match against Idaho Rhodes again took a pass into the left side of the box and beat the keeper to the far side in the Zags 1-0 win. The Victoria, B.C. native finished last season with a team-high three goals and is just three goals away from breaking into the school's top-10 list for career goals.

THE FINISHER: Jessie Sorenson comes into the week tied for the team-lead with a career-high three goals this season with each of the goals coming in a Gonzaga University wins. Her first goal came in the season-opening 3-0 win over the University of Montana and her last two goals each came in the final minutes to seal up GU victories. The Salt Lake City native's goal in the 89th minute sealed the 2-0 win over Eastern Washington University and her most recent goal came in the 86th minute of the Zags 2-0 win over University of Wyoming.

NOW ENTERING THE MATCH: Gonzaga University head coach Amy Edwards has implemented a new style of play in her first season at GU. The new aggressive style of play requires the Zags to rely on the good amount of depth at each position in order to keep fresh legs on the field. The large amount of depth as seen the Bulldogs use at least 20 of its 26 active players in six of its 15 matches this season led by the 22 players appeared in its season-opening victory over the University of Montana as well as in the 2-1 victory over Seattle University.

PERMISSION TO FIRE: Gonzaga University launched a season-high 30 shots in the Sept. 6 2-0 win at Eastern Washington University surpassing its previous season-high of 29 shots which came in the 3-1 win over McNeese State University Aug. 28. The Zags had 12 players record shots against EWU and 10 players fire on net against MSU.
