SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's basketball senior Jami Schaefer, formerly Bjorklund, has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First-Team as selected by members of the College Sports Information of America (CoSIDA). Schaefer earned first-team honors for the third-straight year in District 8 which includes student-athletes from NCAA Division I institutions in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
Five student athletes, including Schaefer, were selected to the District 8 first-team and will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. Also joining Schaefer on the first-team were Elizabeth Doran (Santa Clara University), Kyla Evans (Eastern Washington University), Brittany Halberg (UNLV), and Kelsey Kahle (Portland State University).
Schaefer currently holds a 3.95 GPA in business administration. The Spokane native was averaging 5.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.1 assists before she was sidelined with a knee injury on Dec. 22.
