VALLEJO, Calif. - Kyle Huus was the top individual finisher for Gonzaga University Saturday at the Bay Area Intercollegiate Shootout as men's golf launched the spring season.
The 36-hole event was an individual event as no team scores were recorded. The tournament featured 41 players from six schools.
Huus had rounds of 74-77 for a 151 over the 6,762-yard par 72 Hiddenbrooke Golf Course layout for a three-way tie for eighth.
Alex Ching of the University of San Diego fired an even par 144 with a pair of 72s for a 3-stroke victory over teammate Blake Trimble (75-72) and Mat Miller (75-72) of the University of San Francisco.
Derek Cheney of the Bulldogs tied for 24th at 157 with rounds of 77-80 and Francis Santiago and Jason Azzarito were in a four-way tie for 27th at 159. Santiago shot 84-75 while Azzarito had rounds of 77-82.
The Bulldogs will play their first 54-hole tourney of the season Monday and Tuesday when they compete in the UC Riverside Tournament at Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont, Calif.
