Bulldogs Drop Palm Springs Classic Opener To #11 OSU

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Gonzaga University baseball team dropped its Palm Springs Classic opener 14-5 to #11 Oklahoma State University Thursday evening. Junior centerfielder Drew Heid finished 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Bulldogs (6-3).

After Gonzaga pulled within 2-1 on Heid's RBI single in the fourth inning, the Cowboys (7-1) went on to score 13 runs over the next three innings including back-to-back six run frames in the sixth and seventh to put the game out of reach.

The Bulldogs scored single runs in the sixth and seventh and later added two runs on Heid's two-run single in the ninth. GU senior starting pitcher Matt Fields (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing three earned runs in his six innings.

Senior Evan Wells finished with two hits and fellow classmate Jason Chatwood drove in one for the Zags who dropped their first game of the season against a ranked team after beating #10 University of Missouri twice during the season-opening weekend.

Gonzaga continues play at the Palm Springs Classic with a 10 a.m. matchup against the University of California - Riverside Friday morning.
