Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Gonzaga University dropped an 8-1 non-conference decision to #25 Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore. Tuesday night.

Jason Chatwood and Tyson Van Winkle each picked up hits for the Bulldogs (30-15) who were playing its first game after an eight-day layoff due to final exams and graduation. With the win Oregon State improved its record to 30-14 and put an end to its five-game losing skid to the Zags.

Four Gonzaga pitchers combined to strikeout out 10 OSU hitters but the Beavers starting pitcher Tyler Waldron was able to hold the potent Bulldog lineup in the check throughout the night. Waldron allowed two hits and struck out eight in a complete-game effort for OSU.

Oregon State was the first to get on board, taking advantage of some first inning wildness by Bulldog starting pitcher Ryan Carpenter. The freshman southpaw issued three walks in the opening frame including a bases-loaded free pass to give the Beavers an early 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs were able to string a couple of hits together to bring a run across in the sixth inning. Chatwood got things going with a one-out single to right field and Van Winkle followed with his West Coast Conference leading 22nd double to drive in Chatwood all the way from first to tie the game at 1-1.

OSU came right back with a run in their half of the seventh, using another bases-loaded walk to take a 2-1 lead. The Beavers were able to put the game out of reach in the eight, using a three-run home run and a three-run double to put up six runs in the eighth inning.

Reedy Berg (3-4) suffered the loss for the Zags despite striking out four and allowing just two hits in his 3.1 innings of work.

Gonzaga and Oregon State will wrap up their two-game series 1 p.m. Wednesday.
