SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University's Cody Martin has been named the West Coast Conference/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week the conference announced Monday. It is the Dos Palos, Calif. native's second WCC weekly honor of the season and third of his career. Gonzaga has now received a league-best 10 WCC Player/Pitcher of the Week awards this season.
The right-handed reliever recorded a save in the Bulldogs' 4-3 series opening win against Loyola Marymount University this past Friday and later picked up the win in the Zags 5-4 victory on Saturday that clinched Gonzaga's inaugural WCC Regular Season Title. Martin struck out five of the seven hitters he faced in his two-innings of work to earn the save on Friday. On Saturday he held LMU scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings before picking up the win after Chris Sturdivant doubled home the game-winner in the ninth inning for the Zags.
The Bulldogs close out the regular season with a non-conference match up against in-state rival Washington State University at the to the Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
