THIS WEEK: Gonzaga University women's volleyball resumes match action Tuesday hosting the University of Montana at the Martin Centre beginning at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs then begin West Coast Conference action Saturday with a home match against the University of Portland at 1 p.m.

KIDS DAY:
Calling all kids! It's a game just for you! Members of Gonzaga's Jr. Zags Club who wear their 2009-2010 Jr. Zags Club shirt will receive a coupon for free Dippin' Dots and even have an opportunity to take a picture with Spike!! All participants in 2009 summer volleyball camps are also invited to this special day just for kids and will receive free admission! Any group that purchases group tickets before the day of the game will be recognized thorough a PA during halftime. Make sure you get to the Martin Centre EARLY; the first 50 kids through the doors will receive a FREE Gonzaga Autograph book! Stick around after the match to meet the team for autographs!

ABOUT MONTANA: The University of Montana enters the match with Gonzaga University with a record of 5-8. The Grizzlies stopped a three-match losing skid with a 3-0 victory at Montana State last Friday night. The win improved Montana to 1-2 in Big Sky Conference play.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE GRIZZLIES: The University of Montana leads the all-time series with Gonzaga University 23-11. The Bulldogs lost to the Grizzlies 3-1 in the Montana Tournament to open the season a year ago. GU did defeat UM the last time they played at the Martin Centre; earning a 3-0 sweep Sept. 3, 2007.

COACHES AT THE HELM HAVE A HISTORY: First year head coach Dave Gantt will see a familiar face on the opposing bench when Gonzaga University plays the University of Montana Tuesday. Gantt has coached with Grizzlies head coach Jerry Wagner at two different universities. Wagner was an assistant coach under Gantt at Oregon State University for the 1991 and 1992 season. He then was an assistant coach for Gantt at Montana State University for four seasons from 1999 to 2002.

ABOUT PORTLAND: The University of Portland currently holds a 3-11 overall mark in 2009. The Pilots, who host Seattle University Wednesday, has not played since a 3-0 setback at Cal State Northridge on Sept. 19.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE PILOTS: Gonzaga University leads the all-time series with the University of Portland 32-16. The Bulldogs have won four out of the last five meetings and split the series with the Pilots in 2008. Portland defeated Gonzaga 3-1 in the Zags final match of the season in 2008.

WHAT A DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE: Caitlin Cozad began her junior season with a bang at the Weber State University Tournament. The middle blocker earned All-Tournament honors after collecting 24 total blocks, including 20 block assists and four solo blocks. Cozad also tallied 19 kills in the Bulldogs 1-2 opening weekend.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE STAT LEADERS: Caitlin Cozad has amassed 51 total blocks this season, which leads the team and leads the West Coast Conference. Erin Bragg of the University of San Francisco also had 51 blocks to her credit. Senior Layne Brosky is eighth in the West Coast Conference in kills, averaging 3.05 per set, while junior libero Allyson Powell is sixth in digs, averaging 4.25 per set.

SINGLE-MATCH RECORD: Gonzaga University women's volleyball junior Caitlin Cozad broke the Bulldog single-match block assists record against Utah State University Aug. 29. The middle blocker finished the match with 15 block assists, breaking assistant coach Abby (Cullen) Bennett's eight-year record of 13. Bennett tallied 13 block assists against the University of Portland in 2002. Cozad became the sixth Zag to register double-digit block assists in a single match.

DOING HER THING: Gonzaga University junior libero Allyson Powell had an explosive defensive outing against the University of Tulsa at the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational Sept. 12. Powell finished the match, a 3-2 victory over the Hurricane, with a career-high 31 digs. She is the first Zag to finish with 30-plus digs in a five-set match since 2003 when Heather Signor had 35.

A STRONG OUTING: Gonzaga University women's volleyball player Kelsey Bashaw had an all-around strong performance against the University of North Dakota Sept. 23. The junior, switching back and forth from setter to outside hitter, finished the match with 28 assists, four kills and three block assists; all career-highs. Bashaw was named the Gonzaga Player of the Match after her breakout performance.

CAREER HIGHS: Seniors Michelle Boevers and Layne Brosky, along with sophomore Kaprina Goodwin eclipsed multiple personal career-highs early in the season. Boevers collected her first career double-double against Utah State University with 13 kills and 11 digs. The 11 digs was also a career-high, breaking her previous mark of seven that she tallied on four different occasions. Brosky finished with 19 kills in the Zags 3-2 victory over the University of Tulsa, one more than her previous best-high of 18. Goodwin also had her second career double-double against Tulsa collecting a career-high 14 kills and 10 digs. Her first career double-double came against Utah State when she had a then career-high 10 kills and a career-high 11 digs.

1,000 KILLS: Senior Michelle Boevers became the 11th Gonzaga University women's volleyball player to eclipse the 1,000 kill plateau after tallying 29 kills at the Radisson Tulsa Airport Invitational. Boevers currently has 1,032 kills to her credit. The last player to tally 1000-plus kills was Becky Jones (2004-07) who finished her career with 1,429.

FIRST BULLDOG WIN: Gonzaga University first-year women's volleyball head coach Dave Gantt earned his first Bulldog career win against Utah State University Aug. 29. Gantt, who was out of the volleyball circuit for seven years, picked up his 217th overall career victory with the 3-2 win.
