Zags Receiving Votes in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Pre-Season Poll

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University baseball team will open the 2011 season receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper's NCAA Division I pre-season poll.
The Bulldogs finished the 2010 season 20-36 overall and 8-13 in the West Coast Conference.
Five of Gonzaga's non-conference opponents this upcoming season are ranked in the top 40. Texas A&M University leads the pack of opponents at No. 8, University of Oregon No. 9, Fresno State University No. 29, Washington State University No. 31 and UC Irvine No. 34.
Six of Gonzaga's non-conference opponents all are receiving votes, Oregon State University, the University of Washington, University of Missouri, University of Minnesota, University of New Mexico and University of Iowa. Texas Christian University tops the pre-season poll after posting a 54-14 record last year.
The Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll is the oldest college baseball poll. Its birth took place during the 1958 college baseball season.
The Bulldogs open the 2011 season Feb. 18 in Fresno, Calif., for a doubleheader against Oregon State and Fresno State, respectively. Game one's first pitch is at 2 p.m.
