The Bulldogs are sixth at 604 after identical rounds of 302. The Zags trail IC Irvine by a stroke and are seven shots behind the host Bulldogs and fellow West Coast Conference foe Santa Clara University who are tied for third at 597. UC Davis leads at 582 for a 3-stroke advantage over San Jose State University.
Third-year head coach Brad Rickel said he "was pretty proud of the way we played. We probably didn't shoot as low as we could have. We're still a little rusty and had some weak bogeys and missed some three-to-five foot putts."
But Rickel said he liked the approach of his squad.
"We competed and showed a real competitive spirit. Our plan to play the course was sound and followed it as best we could. We don't know where the ball is going as well as we might like, but overall I think everybody was pretty satisfied for early in the season."
Fallgren played an outstanding first round.
"Victoria had an amazing morning round and inspired her teammates for the afternoon. Everybody contributed today and everybody had a score we used. We'll still need our best round of the year if we are going to move up," Rickel said.
