Zags Head To Pullman For Midweek Matchup With WSU

March 22, 2010

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University baseball team heads to Pullman, Wash. for a matchup against Pacific-10 Conference foe Washington State University 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night. This will be the first of four meetings between the Zags (8-11) and Cougars (11-5) this season.

ON DECK: Following its midweek slate at Washington State University, Gonzaga University will again hit the road, heading to Orem, Utah for a three-game series against Utah Valley University beginning Thursday and running through Saturday.

FOLLOW THE BULLDOGS LIVE: All Gonzaga University home games and selected away games will be available via Gametracker on the internet at http://www.gozags.com. Selected Gonzaga home games will be video streamed and also available on the radio at 1510 AM with Tom Hudson and former Gonzaga head coach Steve Hertz calling the action. Gonzaga's first home radio broadcast is tentatively scheduled for the Mar. 30 matchup against Washington State University. Gametracker will be available Tuesday night.

LAST WEEK: Gonzaga University posted a 1-4 record last week, splitting a two-game series with BYU in Spokane before dropping all three games at No. 15 UC Irvine this past weekend. The young group of Bulldogs will continue to improve with every game as last week the Zags battled to bring the potential tying-run to the plate in ninth inning in three different games but was turned away by a couple nice defensive plays and suffered losses.

LEADING THE WAY: The Gonzaga University offense continues to be led by senior centerfielder Drew Heid who picked up two hits in each game of the weekend series at No. 15 UC Irvine over the weekend. The preseason All-West Coast Conference selection enters the week leading the conference with 33 hits and paces the Bulldogs with a .393 batting average. Andy Hunter comes into the game against Washington State University leading the Zags with five home runs and 21 RBI, which is second in the WCC. Tuesday night's starting pitcher will be Tyler Olson who owns a 1-0 record after making two starts this season. The sophomore lefthander started against New Mexico State Feb. 20 and later picked up his first win of the 2010 campaign after going five innings and striking out three in his start at Texas Tech University Mar. 10.
