ATLANTA - Gonzaga University women's basketball junior point guard Courtney Vandersloot has been tabbed as a finalist for the State Farm Coaches' All-America team, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Thursday.
The 40 finalists, who are voted upon by WBCA-member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions, are now in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.
Vandersloot, the back-to-back West Coast Conference Player of the Year, leads the nation in assists at 9.4 per game, sixth in steals per contest at 9.5 and 12th in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.23. The Kent, Wash., native has helped Gonzaga to a 29-4 overall mark, its sixth-straight West Coast Conference regular season title, its third WCC Tournament championship in four years and its first NCAA Touranmet Sweet Sixteen appearance in school history.
She became the West Coast Conference and Gonzaga career assists leader this season and the Bulldog career steals leader. Vandersloot has registered 10 double doubles this year (9 pts/asts, 1 pts/stls) and has scored double-figure points in 27 of 33 contests, including six 20-plus games. She has dished out double-figure assists 11 times, including a career-high against the University of North Dakota on Nov. 25, 2009.
Vandersloot is also a Wade Trophy Award finalist, a Nancy Lieberman Award finalist, and is on the John R. Wooden Award final ballot.
The State Farm Coaches All-America Team for NCAA Division I will be announced in the Alamodome on center court between open practices on Saturday, April 3, at 1:05 p.m. CT as a part of the NCAA's Super Saturday events in San Antonio, Texas.
