TUCSON, Ariz. - Gonzaga University's women's golf team struggled with 25 mph winds Friday in the opening two rounds of the Mountain View Collegiate at the 6,227-yard, par 72 Mountain View Golf Course.
The Bulldogs had rounds of 312 and 305 for a 36-hole total of 617, but find themselves just five strokes out of the top 10 heading into Saturday's final round.
"We played much better in the afternoon for the conditions," head coach Brad Rickel said. "It blew up to 25 miles-per-hour all day. We'll need our best round Saturday to have a decent showing."
Victoria Fallgren posted the best round of the day for the Zags with a second-round 73 to go with a 78 in the morning for 151 and a tie for 23rd. Stephanie Corey posted a pair of 77's for 154 and Jessica Howe shot 80-77 for 157. Sage Suffecool and Rachel Sibbitt are each at 160. Suffecool shot 77-83 while Sibbitt had 82-78.
Texas Tech University is atop the leaderboard at 595 for a 1-stroke edge over Brigham Young University and a 2-shot lead over UNLV and Colorado State University.
Four individuals are tied for the top spot at 146. Kelsey Vines of BYU (70-76), Kristen Schelling of UNLV (74-72), Kellye Belcher of Indiana University (75-71) and Julia Potter of the University of Missouri (73-73) hold a 1-stroke lead over Gabriella Dominguez of Texas Tech (71-76) and Kasey Claussen of Colorado State (71-76).
