SAN JOSE, Calif. - Gonzaga University's women's golf team showed a little improvement Tuesday in the final round of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, the Bulldogs shooting a final-round 315 to finish at 958.
The long course plagued the Bulldogs throughout the 54-hole event, and rain and a wet course lengthened the 6,223-yard Almaden Golf and Country Club that played to par 72 even more during Monday's 36 holes.
The University of California captured team honors at 899 for a 2-stroke victory over UC Davis. Gonzaga finished last in the 16-team field, five strokes behind Colorado State University.
Victoria Fallgren and Stephanie Corey battled back from second-round scores of 82 and 83, respectively, and shot 75's Tuesday. That moved Fallgren into a tie for 30th at 232 and Corey into a tie for 48th at 236.
But like Monday when the Bulldogs had just three sub-80 rounds, Fallgren and Corey were the only two to break 80 Tuesday.
Cristina Corpus of host San Jose State University won her second straight tournament for the Spartans, shooting a final-round 74 for a 54-hole score of 217 and a 2-stroke victory over Demiu Runas of UC Davis.
