Fallgren's Run Ends At Women's Amateur Public Links

June 24, 2010

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Victoria Fallgren's run in the 34th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links came to an end Thursday when the Gonzaga University sophomore-to-be fell 5 and 4 to fellow Californian and longtime friend Joy Trotter, the 23rd seed, in the second round of match play.

Fallgren, from Lakewood, Calif., and seeded 55th into match play, conceded the hole and the match after making bogey on the 14th hole.

The tournament is being played at The Warren Course at Notre Dame, a 6,092-yard, par 71 layout on the University of Notre Dame campus.

The match was all square after seven holes, Fallgren holding early 1-up leads after winning holes two and four. But Trotter won four of the next five holes - they halved the 11th hole - to go 4 up. Both players bogeyed the par 4, 344-yard 13th, then Fallgren's fateful bogey on the par 3, 165-yard 14th followed. Fallgren bogeyed six of the last seven holes played.

Fallgren had won her opening round of match play Wednesday with a 3 and 1 victory over 10th-seeded Tiffany Lua, another Californian and friend.

The Bulldogs had two golfers competing in the tournament, Post Falls, Idaho, native Genna Dodge also making the original field of 156 but failing to make the cut to 64 for match play.
