Each week a different Gonzaga University women's soccer player will recap the week prior. This week Jordan Travis, a freshman midfielder/defender, shares the highlights from the past week.
After a long and tough weekend on the road, we had a light body weight lift on Monday. With midterms going on this week we were given two days off of practice so we could focus on our academics.
We started Wednesday with some video analysis on USF to prepare for the following day's game. After video we headed out to practice. With the two prior days off we had a very focused technical and possession based training session to regain our touch on the ball. With a solid practice behind us we were ready for our first home conference game!
Thursday - GAME DAY! Everyone was very excited to play our first conference game on our own field. We came out and had a solid first half. After a few frustrating missed opportunities with 14 shots, unfortunately USF earned a goal with less than 10 minutes left in the game. It was a hard battle to the end but a definite disappointment. Soccer can be a very frustrating game.
With another tough game on Saturday, we prepared by watching some video on BYU. After learning about our opponent, some players headed to the pool for a quick recovery workout while some went outside to the field for a short practice.
Saturday - GAME DAY! It was also our Breast Cancer Awareness game so we sported our pink jerseys! With a good crowd and some beautiful weather, we were ready to take on BYU! We went in expecting a tough physical game and BYU did not disappoint. We entered half time tied 0-0. Coming out strong in the second half, we scored off of a great cross from Katey Pennington to Kasey Rubosky who slid for the goal. BYU then came back with the equalizer followed by two more goals. Not giving up, we answered back with a goal off a corner kick by Sarah Rhodes that found Cricket Harbor who scored. The game ended up 3-2. It was a tough, aggressive, and fun battle.
On to our next opponent #4 ranked Pepperdine. Go Zags!
