SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Four Gonzaga University student-athletes received 2011 West Coast Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team honors, WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich announced.
James Matern and Josh Phillips earned first-team honors, while Colin Flynn and Mitchell Weller received honorable mention recognition.
Matern, a sophomore forward from Spokane's Ferris High, carries a 3.58 grade point average in math. He was also named to the All-WCC second-team this season.
Phillips, a sophomore defender from Olympia, Wash., had a 3.35 GPA in environmental studies and was an All-WCC second-team selection this season.
Flynn, a senior forward from Douglas, Alaska, has a 3.52 GPA in engineering. He also earned academic honorable mention honors last season.
Weller, a senior forward from Cheney, Wash., carries a 3.58 GPA in physical education.
To be eligible for academic honors, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to the team.
