Sarah Rhodes Tabbed All-West Coast Conference Second Team

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University women's soccer senior Sarah Rhodes was named to the All-West Coast Conference second team as the conference office announced its annual awards Tuesday. Rhodes becomes the 12th player in school history to garner WCC second-team accolades.
Rhodes, a midfielder, was the top offensive player for the Bulldogs in 2011, closing out the season with 15 points on four goals and seven assists. Her seven assists tied former Zags Claire Whitfield (1999) and Cassie Geerdts (2010) for the single-season record. She also became the Gonzaga all-time assists leader, closing out her career with 18; three more than the previous record holder Sarah Streufert (1997-00) who had 15.
After sharing the 2011 West Coast Conference title, Pepperdine University and the University of San Diego each claimed two WCC individual accolades. San Diego senior Stephanie Ochs is the WCC Player of the Year, and teammate Natalie Garcia is the Defensive Player of the Year. Pepperdine's Lynn Williams is the Freshman of the Year, while Tim Ward was recognized by his peers as the Coach of the Year. Santa Clara senior Bianca Henninger was named the inaugural West Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year.
For the first time since 2005, four West Coast Conference teams will compete for the Women's Soccer College Cup. Pepperdine, Portland, San Diego, and Santa Clara will all compete in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, which begins on Friday. The West Coast Conference has been represented 19 times in the Final Four, and has produced three national champions.
Gonzaga closed out the year with a 7-10-2 overall record and 0-6-2 mark in the WCC.
