HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team arranged a non-conference match with Chaminade University while on its trip in Hawaii Tuesday. The Bulldogs finished the day with a 6-1 win over the Silverswords.
Senior Jackie Tabb and sophomore Britta Stime earned wins in both singles and doubles to lead the Bulldogs (3-8) to victory. Tabb and her doubles partner junior Sophie Lantta defeated Jan Matsumoto and Natalie Phanphengdy 8-5 at No. 2 doubles while Stime and sophomore Gabrielle Verspieren claimed an 8-6 victory over Karen and Stacey Chaussoy to secure the doubles point for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs momentum carried over in singles play. Tabb secured the win for the Bulldogs at the No. 5 spot, defeating Stacey Chaussoy 6-1, 6-2. Stime finished the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Karen Chaussoy at the No. 6 position. The Bulldogs also got wins from junior Prue Teitzel at No. 2, senior Clare Dodge at No. 3 and senior Danielle Farmer at No. 4. Junior Kristina Zauere and Yanita Arnaudova had a battle at No. 1 singles but Arnaudova won the three set match 4-6, 7-5, 10-5.
"It was a great win today," Bulldogs head coach D.J. Gurule said. "After a little slow start in doubles we did a great job being patient and dictating points. Jackie played well all day and it was great to see her clinch the match at No. 5 singles. We are enjoying our time in Hawaii and are looking forward to playing the University of Hawai`i Wednesday."
The match against the Rainbow Wahine starts at 3:30 p.m. PT.
