SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University women's basketball senior forward Kelly Bowen was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday. This is Bowen's first career WCC weekly honor and the Bulldogs third honor of the year.
Bowen helped Gonzaga clinch at least a share of its eighth-straight West Coast Conference regular season title by averaging 14.0 points and 12.5 rebounds over the Bulldogs two victories this past week.
The Victoria, Australia native began the week scoring a game and career-high 19 points, hitting 7-of-8 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 at the free throw line, in GU's 87-55 win over Santa Clara. Bowen also grabbed nine rebounds and had one assist and one steal.
She followed that performance up grabbing a game and career-high 16 rebounds - also a GU single-game high this season - in the Zags 66-40 win over Pepperdine University. Bowen also added nine points, seven of which came in Gonzaga's crucial 22-0 run in the second half that turned a 34-34 ballgame into a blown open 56-34 lead.
The other two Zags who earned WCC weekly honors this season are redshirt sophomore Haiden Palmer (Dec. 19) and senior Katelan Redmon (Jan. 23).
