SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Despite taking all three doubles matches, the Gonzaga University women's tennis team couldn't pick up points in singles play as it fell 6-1 to University of San Francisco in the regular-season finale Sunday.

The tandem of Madeline Parker and Prue Teitzel got the day started with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles, the senior-freshman pairing of Kristina Zauere and Katie Edwards followed with an 8-5 win at the No. 1 spot and the other veteran-rookie combo of Sophie Lantta and Kylie Peek completed the sweep with an 8-7 (4) win on court two.

Although the Dons took all six singles matches, several Bulldogs made their opponents earn the point. Teitzel won the first set of her No. 1 singles match, but Julia Wartenburger regrouped and won the match 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-8. Edwards also won the first set 6-4 on court three, but Melinda Akerbrant used a pair of 6-3 set scores to win the match.

Gonzaga, which finished the regular-season 9-11 overall and 1-7 in WCC play, will turn its attention to the West Coast Conference Championships in San Diego, Calif., beginning Wednesday. The tournament seeding will be announced at a later date.
