Emily Thomas Qualifies For NCAA Western Regional 10,000

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University sophomore Emily Thomas is officially in the NCAA Western Regional Track and Field Championship as declarations were made official Thursday.

Thomas will run the 10,000 meters, the first Bulldog - men or women - to compete in the NCAA Track and Field Championship.

The native of Washougal, Wash., qualified with her school record 35:01.36 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival April 6.T

The top 48 marks qualify for the NCAA Regional and Thomas has been sitting between 35 and 45 on the list of qualifiers.

She enters the meet ranked 36th in the field. Deborah Maier of the University of California is the top qualifier with a time of 32:12.47.

The women's 10,000 meter semifinal will be run at 7:40 p.m. Pacific Time next Thursday. The top 12 finishers qualify for the NCAA Championship June 6-9 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
