SPOKANE, Wash. - Recognized by Perfect Game as one of the Top 100 recruiting classes in the nation and the best in the state of Washington, Gonzaga University baseball head coach Mark Machtolf announced the addition of seven players to the 2015 roster Friday.

"Overall I strongly believe this recruiting class ranks up with one of the best in program history," Machtolf stated. "Coach Danny Evans and Coach Steve Bennett continue to recruit great players, but better young men that fit the mold of the Gonzaga program. A thank you must go out to our past and current player for developing a culture that continues to attract the best players on the west coast."

Joining the Bulldogs next year is Justin Blatner, a 6-3 left-handed pitcher/outfielder from Gonzaga Prep high school in Spokane, Wash., Gage Burland, a 6-2 right-handed pitcher/outfielder from East Valley high school in Otis Orchards, Wash., Tyler Frost, a 5-10 right-handed pitcher/outfielder from Greenway high school in Peoria, Ariz., Calvin LeBrun, a 5-10 left-handed pitcher from Sunnyslope high school in Phoenix, Ariz., Nick Nyquist, a 6-2 infielder from Coeur D'Alene high school in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, Branson Trube, a 5-11 outfielder from Mountain View high school in Meridian, Idaho, and Jace VanDeBrake, a 6-2 shortstop from West Valley high school in Yakima, Wash.

"This class is very well balanced and will continue to help the Zags compete for the West Coast Conference title for many years," Machtolf said. "From a pitching standpoint, we were able to secure immediate innings on the mound that will feature both power and pitch ability from both the right and left side. Our offense and defense will see another influx of speed and athleticism to the Bulldog lineup in 2015. This class defines ‘Zag' and we cannot wait to see them all in a Gonzaga uniform next fall."

Justin Blatner

Justin Blatner is one of the top baseball products in Washington State. He was named Washington's top prospect Baseball Northwest after in incredible 2013 season.

"We are thrilled Justin has selected Gonzaga as his new home," Machtolf said. "He is an athletic player who excels on the mound and at the plate. We look forward to all the ways he can contribute in 2015. Justin will be used primarily as a left-handed pitcher but will have a great opportunity to be a two-way player for us. It is always exciting to have the No. 1 player in Washington choose Gonzaga."

Gage Burland

"Gage is a very special player and young man," Machtolf said. "He is a power right-handed pitcher who has tremendous upside on the mound and at the plate. He is an electric player who runs very well and who is incredibly athletic in every aspect of the game. When all is said and done, Gage has a chance to be one of the best two-way players in the country."

Tyler Frost

"Tyler is another elite two-way player that will compete for a spot in the starting rotation as well as a position in the outfield," Machtolf said "He reminds our coaching staff of Mile Leake on the mound with an explosive fastball and a plus slider for his strikeout pitch. He will project as a leadoff type hitter with outstanding speed and ability to change the game with the many tools in his arsenal."

Calvin LeBrun
LHP5-10, 160Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope

He will bring an immediate impact to our lineup and the ability to defend in the outfield at an elite level. Branson has outstanding speed but has an even better feel for stealing bases. He is going to cause havoc for opposing pitcher and defenses. He is an exciting player and our fans will love the experience of watching him play for GU in 2015."
