SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University sophomore Heather Johnson has been named to the 2013 Women's Soccer West Coast Conference All-Academic Team.
Senior Emily Eckmann, junior Cricket Harber, junior Tori Lee and junior Katey Pennington all earned honorable mention accolades.
Johnson, a native of Kennewick, Wash., carries a 3.69 cumulative GPA in business. The midfielder leads the team with six goals and 12 points. Four of her goals have come in WCC play, including three goals over the last two matches.
Eckmann, a midfielder/defender from Seattle, Wash., also earned All-Academic first team honors in 2011 and honorable mention accolades in 2012. She holds a 3.63 cumulative GPA in human physiology. Eckmann has notched two goals this season and helped the Zag defense secure six shutouts.
This is Harber's first WCC academic honor. The Seattle, Wash., native carries a 3.56 cumulative GPA in business. Harber has been a mainstay in the Zags defense this season, playing every minute in league action minus 17 due to an injury against the University of Portland. Overall, she has helped GU to six shutouts this year.
Lee, a midfielder from Kirkland, Wash., earned honorable mention honors for the second-straight season. She holds a 3.88 cumulative GPA in economics and math. Lee has recorded two goals and tallied a team-tying high three assists in 2013.
Pennington also garnered honorable mention accolades for the second-consecutive season. The Boise, Ore., native carries a 3.73 cumulative GPA in biology. Pennington, a defender, has notched one assist this year and has also helped GU secure six shutouts.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
