Baseball Goes 2-2 In Pacific Baseball Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - Gonzaga University baseball dropped to future West Coast Conference member University of the Pacific 9-3 in its weekend finale at the Pacific Baseball Invitational at Klein Family Field Sunday.

Gonzaga went 2-2 over the weekend and exit 4-4 overall.

The game was tied at 3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning when the Tigers scored a half a dozen runs.

Gio Brusa hit a double to right center to bring drive in three Tigers and the next batter, Tyger Pederson, hit a two-run homerun to right field. The damage was done and the 9-3 score would hold up for Pacific.

Gonzaga scored its three runs in the fifth and sixth inning.

In the fifth, Cabe Reiten hit a sacrifice fly to bring Cory LeBrun and Alex Bonczyk singled in Marco Gonzales. Clayton Eslick scored in the sixth on a Gonzales single.

The Zags finished the game with nine hits. Gonzales had three and LeBrun with a pair.

Derek Callahan (1-0) got the start and went 5.1 innings allowing three runs for a no decision. David Bigelow, Michael Rucker and Taylor Jones all saw action on the mound.

The Bulldogs return to the diamond Friday at 3 p.m. in the Coca-Cola Classic in Surprise, Ariz., against No. 3 University of Arkansas. The Zags and Tigers will face each other next Saturday in the tournament as well.

NOTES:

LeBrun hit .556 for the Zags during the tournament... Bonczyk went 2-for-2 on stolen bases during the tournament... Joey Harris made his first start at catcher Sunday.
