ORLANDO, Fla. - Playing its first of four matches on the East Coast, Gonzaga University women's tennis team downed Robert Morris University 7-0 Monday.
Gonzaga improves to 7-4 overall, 0-2 in West Coast Conference play.
The Bulldogs had no problem clinching the doubles point, and did so right away.
Katie Edwards and Kylie Peek topped Marie-Sophie Heine and Dounia Zinbi 8-3. The victory was the fifth as a team for Edwards and Peek as the No. 1 doubles team.
In No. 2 doubles, Samantha Polayes and Melanie Yates defeated Clarissa Chen and Jennifer Alves 8-2. The duo is 3-3 as a team this spring.
Gonzaga completed the doubles sweep with Franziska Koehler and Alexandra Tallas handling Carolina Mourao Teixeira and Isabella Novella 8-1.
The Zags piled it on in singles by not dropping a match or a set.
No. 1 Edwards downed Teixeira 6-0, 6-3; No. 2 Peek went over Heine 6-0, 6-1; and No. 3 Isabell Klingert dropped Alves 6-2, 1-0 default.
Klingert is 5-3 playing as the No. 3 singles player.
Gonzaga rounded out the match with No. 4 Polayes winning over Chen 6-1, 6-1; No. 5 Tallas ousting Zinbi 6-4, 6-2; and No. 6 Koehler beating Kourtney Passero 6-1, 6-2.
The Bulldogs road swing continues Tuesday with a morning dual against Jack State University.
