Bulldogs Look To Keep Pilots Grounded Thursday In Portland

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University heads to Pacific Northwest rival University of Portland Thursday in a West Coast Conference men's basketball game, the lone outings of the week for the Bulldogs.

The Zags lead the all-time series against Portland 91-65 and have won 20 straight in the series since the Pilots took a 72-68 victory Feb. 19, 2003, in the Martin Centre, the former home of the Bulldogs. The Zags have won 34 of the last 35 meetings since Portland took a 76-68 victory in the 1996 West Coast Conference Tournament Championship at Santa Clara. Portland won the second regular-season meeting between the teams in 1996, and the WCC title-game win was the last time the Pilots have taken two straight victories in the series. The Bulldogs have won 17 straight against the Pilots in the Chiles Center, 19 straight in the Chiles Center counting the 2007 WCC Tournament played at Portland. Bulldog coach Mark Few is 27-1 against UP. Portland coach Eric Reveno is 0-14 against Gonzaga.

Gonzaga won its 22nd straight West Coast Conference game last Saturday. The Zags won their final two league outings in 2012 and ran the table at 16-0 last season.
