SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga women's basketball led Washington State for 33 minutes in a regional rivalry game Tuesday inside the Kennel, but it was the Cougars that had the 59-58 advantage when the clock expired.
The Cougars (8-2), which are receiving seven votes in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll, snapped Gonzaga's 27-game home win streak during the regular season. WSU led for only two minutes and 50 seconds in the game.
Tia Presley scored 18 of her game-high 21 points in the second half, including the go-ahead basket with 35 seconds left in regulation. The senior made six of Washington State's final eight points. Lia Galdeira also hit a pair of free throws with just over five seconds left in the game.
Gonzaga led 30-20 at halftime after a 13-2 run to end the first half. The Cougars quickly trimmed the margin with a 9-0 run to open up the second half. The Zags led by nine, 54-45, with 7:35 left in the game. But, Washington State scored 14 of the final 18 points.
The Zags (6-3) were led by Sunny Greinacher's 18 points. Keani Albanez finished with 14 points and Elle Tinkle scored 13. Shelby Cheslek matched her average with 11 rebounds. Shalie Dheenshaw added 10 points and seven rebounds for Washington State.
