SPOKANE, Wash.—Gonzaga midfielder Heather Johnson added yet another award to her resume Wednesday when received Scholar All-West Second Team honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The Kennewick, Wash., native earned the honor after seeing success both on the pitch and in the class. In 2014, Johnson led the Zags with five goals, tied for the team lead with 12 points, and started all 19 matches. The junior was a key part of a strong Zag midfield that continuously disrupted opponent possessions and helped spark the GU offense. Away from the playing field, Johnson tallied a 3.71 GPA as a finance and human resources management major in Gonzaga's School of Business.
This is the third postseason honor Johnson has received. In November she became the first Zag in six years to take a spot on the First Team All-West Coast Conference team, and she also picked up All-Academic WCC honors that month as well.
