Women's Soccer Signs Three Players For 2014

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head women's soccer coach Amy Edwards has announced the addition of three players for the upcoming season. Brittany Doan, Allie Boehmer and Tianna Helm will all join the Bulldogs in the fall of 2014.

"With the return of 24 quality players for 2014, we knew we would only need a few pieces to fill this recruiting class," Edwards. "We also knew it would need to address some specific areas, and we truly feel we have accomplished that goal with the addition of these three players. Allie and Tianna will add strength and toughness to our midfield core after the graduation of seniors Emily Eckmann and Ali Ohashi. They both have good skill levels and temperaments to play in the middle of the park for our team. Brittany is a dynamic forward that is going to provide even more speed and depth to an already strong group of attackers. She has pace and quickness to help balance our ability to break opponents down with both skill and athleticism. We are extremely excited about these three players joining the Zags in 2014!"

Brittany Doan is in the midst of her senior season with the girl's soccer team at Cathedral Catholic High School in Del Mar, Calif. In her three plus years as a member of Cathedral High, Doan has tallied 44 goals and notched 12 assists.

Doan was named the 2012-13 North Country Times Player of the Year after leading her squad to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championship, Western League Championship and the Southern California Regional by tallying 20 goals and assisting on four assists. She also was named All-San Diego Section first team, All-CIF Division III first team and All-Western League second team.

As a sophomore, Doan was also tabbed CIF Division III Player of the Year, All-Western League second team and All-San Diego Section first team. She finished with 16 goals and four assists in 2011-12.

Doan plays club for San Diego Surf ECNL, which is coached by Ada Greenwood, head coach at the University of San Diego.

"Brittany is an exciting player because she works so hard on and off the ball," said Edwards. "She defends just as hard as she attacks and we feel she will fit in perfectly with our style of play with her individual quickness, attacking mentality, and ability to score goals. She has a great first touch and ability to break down opponents defenses on the dribble to set up her teammates or simply take the shot herself. We are ecstatic to add her to our Zag Family."

Allie Boehmer has been a four-year varsity member of Poway High School girl's soccer team. She scored two goals and tallied an assist her freshman campaign but a knee injury sidelined her for most of her sophomore and junior seasons. Boehmer did tally four goals and notched an assist her junior campaign before the injury.

Boehmer is a teammate of Doan's on the San Diego Surf ECNL.

"Allie is a very versatile player that can play virtually anywhere in the midfield," stated Edwards. "Her composure and overall understanding of the game will be a great addition to our central midfield group. She is a tremendous player in possession with her skill level and passing ability, but she is also able to win balls in the air, tackle and disrupt our opponent's rhythm with her defensive prowess. She will be a great Zag!"

"Tianna is a special find and we are really happy that she is going to be a Zag," explained Edwards. "She is an all-around athlete that can play in both the defense and the midfield. She is a very explosive and strong player physically, which will make her a great addition to our roster. Tianna has a tough mentality and tremendous work ethic, which will allow her to grow and develop immensely in our program to become a fantastic Zag in her career."
