The Golden View: Shall We Dance?
The time has finally come!
March is here, not just the fact that it is the month of March and we just had St. Patty's Day, but it is the time when that unexplainable feeling arrives when college basketball is at its best. I first felt it while watching our men's team play in a nail biter against Santa Clara University at the West Coast Conference Tournament. The two teams had gone back and forth and it was when our very own David Stockton made the clutch reverse layup to win the game that I felt the madness of March.
With the uncertainty of every close game, teams are tested and heroes are born in the battle to the top. Every 50/50 ball recovered, every defensive stop made on key players, every 3-pointer swooshed, and every flawlessly executed play creates an uncontrollable surge of electricity making every fan, coach, and player jump up and down and scream.
Each one of our games in the WCC Tournament was hard fought, and as head coach of the University of the Pacific Lynne Roberts tweeted, "Shout out to Gonzaga and BYU for making the NCAA Tournament. They are #WCC battle tested and ready...Good luck! Represent." Our conference improves every year, which is only a step in the right direction for everyone.
The tournament is a showcase of the best of the best. March madness is about the unthinkable buzzer beaters that leave you shaking your head. It's about the ‘perfect bracket' messed up by the underdog. March madness is about laying it all on the line to keep playing until the nets have been cut.
For the first time in Gonzaga women's basketball history we were given a 6 seed, the highest we've ever received, a credit to such a magnificent season we have had this year. We may not be in Seattle; however, this team is anxious and eager to prove that we want to continue playing regardless of location or opponent. We still have yet to put together a game where every single player is clicking, and what a better stage then the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament to show exactly that.
We hope to see all our Texas Zag fans come out and show their support. Out of state Zags, I'm telling you this is not any basketball you want to miss!
Let's go dancing...#30 Stephanie Golden
