Bulldogs Fall In Series Opener At Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - Nicholas Minteer tied the game against the University of the Pacific on a pinch hit single in the top of the seventh inning but the lead was short lived as the Tigers scored in the bottom of the frame for the eventual 6-2 winner over the Gonzaga University baseball team at Klein Family Field Friday night.

Gonzaga drops its first West Coast Conference game of the year and falls to 7-13, 3-1 WCC. Pacific improves to 11-13 and 3-1 WCC.

Tiger Brett Sullivan caused problems all night for the Bulldogs. The shortstop impressively hit for cycle and drove in four-runs.

After Minteer tied the game 2-2, it was Sullivan coming through for the Tigers. In the bottom of the seventh he drove in the go ahead run with a double down the right field line. Sullivan distanced the Tigers in the bottom of the eighth on a bases loaded single to right field which brought home a pair of runs.

Senior relief pitcher Karl Myers (0-1) took the defeat after allowing four of the Tigers late runs. He replaced starter Taylor Jones who worked 4.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three and walking four.

Before Pacific pulled away in the eighth inning, the Zags kept the game close by tying the score on two occasions including Minteer's hit.

The first tie came in the top of the third when Payden Cawley Lamb singled home Jimmy Sinatro with two outs. GU had the opportunity to take the lead in the inning but left the bases loaded as Cory LeBrun popped out to end the frame.

Lamb and Sinatro had multi-hit games for the Zags, each had two.

GU and UOP will resume the series Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch. Freshman Brandon Bailey gets the starting nod and will face lefty John Haberman.
