PROVO, Utah - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team suffered its fifth straight defeat Friday as the Bulldogs went under 7-0 to BYU at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
GU (9-12, 0-8 WCC) did not claim a match but did challenge the Cougars in doubles.
Jack Schoebel and Muzeen Ismath gave the BYU top duo Andrey Goryachkov and Robin Pfister quite the battle. The tight contest saw the Zags fall 8-6.
Pablo Mosquera Pérez and Hayden Smith gave a great effort in the No. 3 contest. The two fell short 8-5 but pushed Jacob Sullivan and Jeremy Bourgeois until the end. No. 2's Joey Brandy and Vladimir Mijatovic were defeated 8-3 to Francis Sargeant and Matthew Pearce.
The Gonzaga troubles continued into singles.
Schoebel was first to fall in his No. 4 contest with Pearce. Schoebel was downed 6-3, 6-1. Next was Mosquera at No. 6 where he suffered a 6-4, 6-0 ousting to Aidan Carrazedo.
Top Zag Nick Kamisar went down 6-2, 6-2 to Sargeant. Mijatovic kept pace with Bourgeois but ultimately lost 6-4, 6-2. Smith was defeated 6-1, 6-3 to Goryachkov and Ismath nearly pushed his match to the third in a 6-2, 7-6 effort.
