LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Gonzaga University senior Jack Schoebel picked up the lone point for the men's tennis team Saturday as the Bulldogs lost 6-1 at Loyola Marymount University.
The defeat slides GU to 9-10 overall and 0-6 in West Coast Conference duals.
Schoebel's 10th win of the year came at the No. 4 singles spot. He prevailed in three-sets over Sebastian Bustamante 3-6, 6-3, 6-0. The Woodside, Calif., native is an even 4-4 as the No. 4 player.
Gonzaga nearly had two more points as two defeats came in three-set battles.
At No. 1 Nick Kamisar went toe-to-toe with Todd Volmari. Kamisar took the first set but fell in the final two for the 2-6, 6-4, 10-3 defeat. Vladimir Mijatovic had quite the battle as well at the No. 3 position. The junior was competitive in a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 10-7 downing to Felix Van Kann.
The Zags lost the doubles point but did take the No. 3 contest.
Kamisar and Hayden Smith went over Cristobal Rivera and David Doehring 8-2. The victory marks the first for the newly teamed GU pair.
The Bulldogs head back to Spokane for its last home match of the season Friday. Gonzaga hosts University of San Francisco at 2 p.m. in the Stevens Center.
