SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Gonzaga University senior forward Clark Phillips has been named to the All-West Coast Conference preseason men's soccer team as selected by the conference coaches.

Phillips, a second-team selection as year ago, led the Bulldogs in scoring in 2013 with nine goals and 15 points. He also had four match-winning goals.

The coaches voted Gonzaga to finish sixth in the WCC this season with 23 points, but only five points separate the third thru seventh teams in the balloting. The University of Portland and University of San Diego tied for third with 27 points, Saint Mary's College is fifth with 26, Gonzaga sixth with 23 and the University of San Francisco seventh with 22 points.

After capturing its first outright WCC championship in 2013, Loyola Marymount University was picked as the favorite to win the 2014 title with six first-place votes and 48 points followed by Santa Clara University with the remaining two first-place votes and 43 points. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their team.

The Bulldogs will host Trinity Western University of Langley, British Columbia, in an exhibition match Saturday at 5 p.m. at Luger Field, then open the regular season Aug. 29 as the University of Washington comes to town for a 5 p.m. match as part of a men's and women's double-header. The Bulldog women face the University of Montana at 2:30 p.m.
