SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University women's soccer gave up an early goal in each half and lost 3-0 to UC Irvine Sunday afternoon at Anteater Stadium in Irvine.
Laura McGrail put Irvine in front seven minutes into the contest, beating goalkeeper Christie Tombari to the near post with a shot from the right wing. Kiana Palacios added a second goal just 14 seconds after halftime and Jasmine Nickleberry capped the scoring with a Penalty Kick after a foul in the box at 58:58.
"Giving up early goals in each half had us chasing the game and we never could recover," head coach Amy Edwards said.
Gonzaga managed just 3 shots on goal and were outshot 14-9. The Zags (3-3) are back at home for their only contest this week, hosting regional-rival Washington State at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Luger Field.
