WBB Opens Second Half of WCC Play

ZAGS OPEN 2ND HALF OF WCC PLAY SATURDAY
• Gonzaga seeks to extend its season-long win streak to 11 games at Portland Saturday.
• The Zags are looking for their first 10-0 start to conference play since 2010-11.
• Saturday's tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. Pacific Time. The game will have live video and stats on GoZags.com. Live radio will be on The Key 1050 AM.

THE LAST TIME OUT
• GU won its 10th straight game and remained unbeaten in WCC play with a 73-63 win at Pacific Saturday.
• The Zags had a season-high 19 assists on 25 shots.
• Gonzaga turned a one-point halftime lead into a wide margin midway through the second half after a 20-4 run.
• Sunny Greinacher led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Elle Tinkle and Emma Wolfram both had with double-doubles.

GONZAGA STORYLINES
• The Bulldogs are 13-0 when they score at least 70 points so far this season. They are also 11-0 when their bench outscored the opposing bench.
• Gonzaga has won 28 straight conference games at home, dating back to a 66-63 loss to Saint Mary's on Jan. 14, 2012. Since 2010, the Zags are 42-1 at home versus WCC opponents. Since 2003, the Bulldogs are 88-5 at home versus conference opponents.
• In the 360 minutes of conference play, GU has trailed for 11:08. Pacific had the lead for the longest time, 4:58. The Zags have not trailed in four of their nine WCC games this season.
• GU received one vote in the latest USA Today Coaches' Top 25 poll Tuesday.
• The Bulldogs are ranked 41st in the latest RPI rating, previously 50th before the Pacific game.
• Gonzaga is sixth in the country with a 77.9 free-throw percentage.
• The Zags' three-point defense ranks 13th in the nation, and tops in the conference, holding opponents to 25.8 percent shooting from behind-the-arc.
• Sunny Greinacher has made 19 of her 20 (.950) free throws during West Coast Conference play.

ABOUT THE PILOTS
• Portland enters the Saturday matinee off of a pair of losses at Pacific (69-71) and St. Mary's (53-66).
• The Pilots ended an eight-game losing streak with home wins over LMU and Pepperdine, before last week's road setbacks.
• The top two free-throw shooting teams in the WCC meet Saturday. Portland is at .751 percent.
• Portland's .378 three-point field goal percentage is 12th in the country and leads the conference.
• Cassandra Brown leads the Pilots with an average of 18.6 points per game, third in the WCC.
• In conference play, Brown tops the conference averaging 21.2 points per outing, at 48.4 FG%.
• She is 12th in the country at the free-throw line, shooting 89.6 percent.
• Brown (.420) and Kari Luttinen (.439) are fourth and second in the WCC in three-point percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
• Saturday is the 71st meeting between Gonzaga and Portland. GU has a 44-26 edge.
• The Zags have won the last 12 matchups, dating back to a 70-67 Portland win in Spo-kane in 2009.
• GU has won 14 straight at Portland, dating back to a 52-40 loss in 2001. The Bulldogs are 19-13 all-time at Portland.
• Gonzaga won the last meeting, 79-57, in Spokane on Jan. 3.
• Gonzaga won the first meeting, 78-72, in Portland in 1981.

CHASING MILESTONES
• Sunny Greinacher
- Greinacher is currently fifth in program history with a .508 FG Pct.
- Needs one game to equal Stephanie Hawk's 122, which is 10th all-time at GU.
- Needs 112 points to become 15th on the Gonzaga all-time scoring list.
• Keani Albanez
- Albanez is currently fifth in program history with 412 three-point attempts.
- Needs one made three-pointer to have possession of sixth all-time at 136.
- Needs four games to equal Stephanie Hawk's 122, which is 10th all-time at GU.
- Needs 12 steals to equal Loretta O'Brien's 162, which is 10th all-time at GU.
• Shelby Cheslek
- Cheslek is sixth in program history with 123 blocks, seven away from fifth.

TINKLE NAMED WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
• Elle Tinkle was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday.
• Tinkle totaled 28 points in two big road wins for Gonzaga at Saint Mary's and Pacific. • She averaged nearly a double-double in the wins, pulling down 18 rebounds.
• Tinkle made 10 of her 20 attempts from the field, 3-of-6 from behind-the-arc.
• The junior added eight assists, four steals, and three blocks.

STAYING OUT IN FRONT
• In the past 440 minutes of play, the Zags have trailed for 25:52.
• During WCC play this season, GU has been behind for only 11:08 of the 360 minutes.
• In the last 240 minutes at home, Gonzaga has trailed for 14:46.
• Pacific led for 4:58 in WCC play, but Southern Utah had the lead for the longest during this stretch at 11:54 in the first half of the GU 70-51 win on Dec. 20.
• The Zags have not trailed in four of the nine conference games this season.

NOT A BAD DEBUT
• Lisa Fortier's first year at the helm of the Gonzaga women's basketball team is on track to be one of the best opening years for a head coach in the program's history.
• Bill Evans' 1983-84 Zag team went 21-9 and qualified for NAIA Districts.
• In 1985-86, Mike Peterson led GU to the NAIA Districts and a 21-10 record.
• Fortier will be only the third head coach in the history of the program to post a winning record in their first season.

JANUARY IS A GOOD TIME FOR THE ZAGS
• Gonzaga has won 20 straight games in the month of January, dating back to a 54-51 loss at Saint Mary's on Jan. 10, 2013.
• The Zags went unbeaten in January last season.
• In the past 10 seasons, Gonzaga has won 67 of the last 69 games (.971) in January, with both losses coming to SMC.
• From 2006 to 2012, GU won 44 straight games in January.

WE'RE GOING STREAKING
• Gonzaga has won 10 straight games, the ninth longest active streak in Div. I.
• The Bulldogs have won 12 consecutive West Coast Conference regular season games.
• They have won 15 straight games over WCC opponents, including WCC tournament.
• The Zags are on a six-game home win streak.
• GU has won 28 straight home games versus WCC opponents.
• Gonzaga has won four consecutive true road games.

HOME SWEET HOME IN WCC PLAY
• GU has won 28 straight home games versus WCC opponents dating back to a 66-63 loss to Saint Mary's on Jan. 14, 2012.
• Since 2010, the Bulldogs are 43-1 against conference opponents at home, outscoring them by an average, 78-56.
• At home against conference opponents, the Zags are 88-5 (.945) since the 2003 season.
• The five losses were to Pepperdine (‘03, ‘07), San Francisco (‘04), Portland (‘09), and St. Mary's (‘12). Four of the five losses were by six points or less.
• The Zags are working for their eighth unbeaten home WCC slate, and third straight.

ZAGS ADD UTAH STATE TRANSFER
• Gonzaga has added Makenlee Williams, a transfer from Utah State, to its roster.
• Following NCAA transfer rules, she will sit out the remainder of this season.
• Through seven games, she was leading the Aggies averaging 14.4 points per game.
• During her USU career, Williams averaged 11.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
• She appeared in 60 games at Utah State, making 53 starts. Williams reached double-digit scoring 35 times, along with 20 games with more than five rebounds.

FORTIER INKS TRIO ON SIGNING DAY
• The first signing day of the Lisa Fortier era is in the books for Gonzaga University women's basketball, and it was a highly successful one.
• Zykera Rice, a 6-1 forward from Tacoma, Wash, is a three-sport athlete at Clover Park High School. Last season, she averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds per game.
• Laura Stockton, daughter of John and sister to David, will continue the family name for GU. At Gonzaga Prep in 2013-14, she averaged 13.1 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.8 steals per game.
• Zhane Templeton of Grand Prairie, Texas, was named Texas Girls Coaches Association First Team Class 5A All-State and first team All-District 7-5A.

IN THE MCCARTHEY ATHLETIC CENTER
• Since the McCarthey Athletic Center opened in 2004, Gonzaga has gone 143-17 overall.
• The Bulldogs went undefeated at 14-0 in the McCarthey Athletic Center during the 2004-05 campaign, the first season it was open; went 15-0 during the 2009-10 season and finished last season with a perfect 16-0 record.
• Six of the 17 losses have been to Pacific-12 Conference members - Stanford (twice), Arizona State, USC and Washington State (twice) - and three to West Coast Conference schools.
• Against West Coast Conference opponents, the Zags are 82-4 (.953) in the MAC.
• Gonzaga ranked 16th in the nation in attendance with a home average of 5,426 fans last season. Tennessee led the nation with an average of 11,600 fans per game.

BULLDOGS PICKED AS WCC PRESEASON FAVORITES
• Gonzaga was selected as the preseason favorite to win the West Coast Conference title when the annual coaches' poll was released.
• The Zags received seven of the nine possible first-place votes for 78 points in the poll.
• BYU was picked second, received two first-place votes and 71 points. San Diego was selected third with one first-place vote and 65 points, just ahead of Pacific's 60 points.
• The Bulldogs have reached 20 wins in eight straight seasons.

GREINACHER TABBED PRESEASON ALL-WCC
• The West Coast Conference announced its annual preseason All-Conference team and Sunny Greinacher was named to the select squad.
• The senior was named to the All-WCC postseason squad last year. The forward was named to the All-Freshman team in 2012 and earned All-WCC honorable mention in 2012-13.
• Over the 18 league games last season, Greinacher averaged 10.9 points and 4.8 rebounds, while shooting an impressive 48.7 percent (75-of-154) from the field and 75.4 percent (46-of-61) at the charity stripe.

SEVENTH LONGEST CONFERENCE TITLE STREAK
The Gonzaga University women's basketball team captured its unprecedented 10th-straight West Coast Conference regular-season title in 2013-14, finishing league with a 16-2 record. In the Bulldogs decade-long reign, they piled up an astonishing 136-12 record against conference foes. That includes three undefeated seasons. Their record is the seventh longest streak in the nation.
