LOS ANGELES -- The Loyola Marymount women's soccer team remained in the hunt for the 2015 West Coast Conference title with a 5-0 home victory over Gonzaga Sunday.
The Lions (11-4-1, 5-1-0 West Coast Conference) continued their phenomenal season with league victory. LMU took 14 of its 21 shots during the first half, while only conceding five shots in the match. Loyola Marymount placed seven shots on goal to GU's three.
Gonzaga's Heather Johnson had two shots in the game, and now has 173 in her career. Aliyah Miller, Ashley Aberton and Lauren Luke all had a shot on goal. Blankenship finished with a game-high five shots, with two on frame.
Christie Tombari had a pair of saves in the GU (2-10-5, 1-5-1 WCC) net, while Charlee Pruitt had two for the Lions.
Morgan Hilby opened the scoring 16 minutes into the match. Her fifth goal of the season came off of passes from Ally Andreini and Emma Tyrnauer. Hilby beat the Zags' goalkeeper with a low shot placed in the far corner of the net.
Seven minutes later, Jocelyn Blankenship rebounded a shot off of a block from Tombari. Blankenship's seventh goal of the season matches Gonzaga's Karley Baggerly for the conference lead.
Tyrnauer and Nikki Martino then scored a pair of goals just 16 seconds apart in the 31st minute. Tyrnauer brought in a pass from Melissa Lewis and was able to dribble past the defense and then beat the GU keeper with a shot. It was her first goal of the season. Martino's goal came off of a rebound that struck the post.
Callie Taylor capped the scoring in the 74th minute. Her header off of a corner gave Lewis her second assist of the day.
The Bulldogs make their final road trip of the season to Portland Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. and Merlo Field. Live coverage will be available on GoZags.com.
