SPOKANE, Wash. -- Karley Baggerly's sixth-goal of the season ended up being the game-winner for Gonzaga women's soccer Saturday. The Zags picked up their first West Coast Conference win of the season by holding off San Diego 2-1 at Luger Field.

The Bulldogs (2-6-4, 1-1-0 West Coast Conference) won their second game of the season behind a pair of second half goals. Jodi Ulkekul's strike from deep opened the scoring, before Baggerly's goal clinched the victory. Ulkekul's first collegiate goal will be memorable for the Sammamish, Wash. native. In the 54th minute, the freshman kicked a ball with a lot of pace to the far post, around the outstretched USD keeper.

The Toreros evened the score 20 minutes later. After nearly equaling the score when a header from Tara Meier hit the crossbar and the rebound from Danielle Gonzales was poked over the net by Christie Tombari, USD got its goal off of the ensuing corner kick. Julia Sherwood played a ball into the six-yard box off of the corner, and the loose ball was deflected into the net by Gonzaga for an own goal.

With nine minutes left in regulation, Baggerly received the ball from Heather Johnson, made a move through the San Diego defense, and slid it past the Torero goalkeeper. Johnson's first assist of the season, was the sixth in her career. The senior now has 34 points in her career, which is ninth all-time at GU. Baggerly moved into the top five with her goal. The junior has 40 points in her career.

Gonzaga had a 15-9 advantage in shots. The Zags put nine shots on goal, compared to USD's four. The teams combined for eight shots in the first half, before doubling that to a combined 16 shots in the second half. The Toreros (3-8-2, 1-1-0 WCC) had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Michelle Craft made four saves for San Diego in the first half, before the Toreros switched to McKenna Tollack at halftime. Tollack stopped three GU opportunities in the second half. Christie Tombari made her 230th career save in the win. The Zags' redshirt junior finished with three saves Saturday.

It marked the sixth victory for Gonzaga in the 23 meetings between the programs. It was the second straight victory for the Zags in the series. It's the first time GU has won back-to-back meetings in the series since 2005 and 2006.

Gonzaga travels to Pacific (1-7-1, 0-1-0) Friday, before playing at Saint Mary's (5-5-2, 0-1-0) next Sunday. Start time at Pacific is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live coverage will be available on GoZags.com.
