Nov. 21, 2015 SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga men's basketball head coach Mark Few announced the signing of Rui Hachimura to a National Letter of Intent on Saturday.
Hachimura, a native of Sendai, Japan, brings Gonzaga's total to five signees in the early signing period. The group now includes three international prospects with Hachimura, Jacob Larsen from Denmark and Killian Tillie from France. Those three join Top-100 players Zach Collins and Zachary Norvell in this year's signing class.
Rui Hachimura, 6-6, Forward, Sendai, Japan (Meisei High School)
Hachimura burst onto the basketball scene in Japan last year, due in large part to his breakout performance at the FIBA U17 World Championships in Dubai in August 2014. He averaged a tournament-best 22.1 points per game. Hachimura also led Meisei High School to a second straight winter All-Japan High School Tournament title, averaging 28.0 points in five games. Hachimura would be only the fifth Japanese-born male to play NCAA Division I college basketball. He was also the only Japanese player invited to play in the Jordan Brand Classic's international game at the Barclays Center last April.
