Final Stats

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- The North Carolina women's basketball team used a 7-0 run in the final minute to edge Gonzaga, 67-62, in the final game of the 2015 Naismith Hall of Fame Challenge Sunday.

The game was one of four being played inside the Mohegan Sun Arena Sunday. Shelby Cheslek was named the game's Most Outstanding Player after scoring a team-high 16 points for GU, and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. It was the 11th double-double of her career.

North Carolina (5-3) pulled out the victory despite turning the ball over 20 times. The Zags finished with a season-low 12 turnovers. Gonzaga made 12 steals. The Tarheels became the first Bulldog opponent this season to have an advantage on the glass. UNC ended with a 42-32 lead in rebounds.

Destinee Walker led North Carolina with 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. Jamie Cherry added 14 points. Xylina McDaniel and Hillary Summers contributed 13 and 11 points. Summers also had 10 rebounds.

The Tarheels made 44 percent of their shots in the game, including 6-of-17 from behind-the-arc. They were also 19-for-27 from the free-throw line. Gonzaga finished 37.5 percent from the field after shooting 29 percent in the first half. The Zags were 5-of-20 from three-point range and 9-for-12 from the free-throw line.

After a Cheslek put-back gave Gonzaga a 62-60 lead with just under a minute to play, UNC reeled off the game-s final seven points. The Tarheels used a three-point play and four free-throws to seal the win.

Jill Barta and Kiara Kudron both added 12 points for GU (4-3). Georgia Stirton dished out a game-high four assists to one turnover. Elle Tinkle made five steals.

Gonzaga returns home for a matchup with Wyoming (3-1) Thursday. Tipoff is schedule for 6 p.m. inside the McCarthey Athletic Center.
