ABOUT THE EVENT:
- The second annual event will host golfers from 18 universities across America.
- The 54-hole, individual and team stroke-play event features golfers from Ball State, Bowling Green, UC-Santa Barbara, California State-Northridge, Florida, Georgia, Gonzaga, Hawaii-Manoa (host), Indiana, Kansas, Liberty, Loyola Marymount, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, South Carolina, Texas and Washington State.
- The University of Oregon used a dominating performance last year to win the inaugural Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, finishing at 33-under par 819.
- The Ducks set NCAA records on Day 1, posting a 30-under par 254 to set the new mark for lowest single-round score in relation to par and total strokes.
- The individual title also went to Oregon when freshman Aaron Wise sank a 20-foot putt to overcome the University of North Florida's MJ Maguire in a sudden death playoff after both finished regulation at 10-under par 203.
ABOUT THE COURSE:
- Ka'anapali Golf Courses - managed by Billy Casper Golf - is built on 300 acres of land once home to Hawaiian royalty, the courses present golfers with pristine conditions and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and West Maui Mountains.
- Opened in 1962 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the Royal Ka'anapali Course features wide fairways and undulating greens which make it both distinctive and demanding.
- The tournament-tested layout hosted the Champions Tour Ka'anapali Classic for 14 years, Shell's Wonderful World of Golf, the Canada Cup and LPGA Kemper Open, welcoming Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Jan Stephenson, Betsy King and other legends.
- Complementing the Royal Ka'anapali Course is the modernized Ka'anapali Kai Course which hosted Golf Channel's "Big Break Ka'anapali."
- Extensively renovated in 2005, the 6,400-yard, par-70 layout boasts an array of strategically placed bunkers, contoured fairways and resurfaced greens
WALSH DOES IT AGAIN:
- Sean Walsh had his second top-five finish already this season after tying for second at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate on Oct. 13. Walsh led Gonzaga to a tie for third place on the team leaderboard. - In the third round, Walsh made 15 pars and had three bogeys. He carded a 75 (+3).
- The Keller, Texas native carded a 69 (-3) and a 70 (-2) in the first two rounds.
- Walsh's 11 birdies through the first 36 holes were the most in the 69-golfer field. He had five birdies to just two bogeys in Round 1.
- The senior is currently 43rd in the Golf Stat Head-to-Head standings.
