Final Stats

LOS ANGELES -- Entering Wednesday's game at Loyola Marymount, Shelby Cheslek needed one block to set the program record for blocks in a career. She got the block, along with a double-double, and the Gonzaga women's basketball team won their fourth straight game, 66-59.

Cheslek came into the game tied with Kayla Standish for the program record at 176. Cheslek's record-setting blocked shot came on a key stop with just 38 seconds remaining in regulation. It was her 29th block of the season and the 177th in her four-year career. The senior is currently 10th in West Coast Conference history.

The Zags (10-4, 2-0 West Coast Conference) won their 10th game of the season behind the effort of nine different scorers. Cheslek and Kiara Kudron both finished with double-doubles. Cheslek's fifth double-double-double of the season came on 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Kudron pulled down 13 boards and also scored 10 points. It was Cheslek's 14th career double-double and Kudron's third, all coming this season.

Gonzaga's Georgia Stirton scored nine of her team-high 14 points in the first five minutes of the third quarter. Emma Stach added nine points, Jill Barta grabbed nine rebounds, and Chelsea Waters made a game-high three steals.

The Bulldogs controlled the glass, finishing with a season-high 56 rebounds. Loyola Marymount had 34. GU has outrebounded all but one of its opponents so far this season. The Zags had a 28-20 edge in the paint, and a 23-12 advantage off of the bench.

In a game that had five lead changes and four ties, Gonzaga led for just over 35 minutes. After making seven of their first eight shots, the Bulldogs took a 21-15 lead off of a lay-in from Laura Stockton with 1:54 left in the first quarter. LMU tied the game at 23 just into the second quarter, and then took a 27-26 lead three minutes into the period. It was the Lions' last lead of the game.

Gonzaga led 39-35 at halftime. Loyola Marymount scored the first points of the second half and trimmed the GU lead to 39-37. The Bulldogs then went on an 11-3 run, including nine points from Stirton. The senior capped the run, and gave Gonzaga its largest lead of the game, with a three-pointer from the top of the key.

The Lions (5-8, 1-1 WCC) closed the quarter on a 9-2 run and trailed by only three, 54-51, entering the final 10 minutes. A lay-in from Cheyanne Wallace with 4:08 remaining cut the score to 58-57. After a GU three-pointer from Zhané Templeton, LMU's Leslie Lopez-Wood made a jumper with 2:31 left in the game. The Lions would not score again.

Lopez-Wood finished with a game-high 16 points. Wallace added 12 points, while Sophie Taylor and Deanna Johnson contributed 11 and 10. Bree Alford had a team-high nine rebounds and Andee Velasco dished out a game-high four assists.

Gonzaga finished 36 percent from the field and held Loyola Marymount to 32 percent. The Bulldogs were 6-of-15 from behind-the-arc and LMU was 7-for-19. Both teams had 13 assists.

After their five-game road stretch, the Zags return to Spokane for a matchup with San Francisco on Dec. 31. The Dons (9-3, 0-1) were playing at Pacific at the time of this release. USF and Gonzaga are scheduled to tipoff at 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve in the Kennel.
