LAKE HARTWELL, S.C. - The No. 19 Gonzaga women's rowing team turned in another fast performance on the final day of action at the Clemson Invitational at Lake Hartwell, S.C.

"All of our boats had strong performances, which is what we've been working towards," head coach Glenn Putyrae said. We are excited about where we are and to just be able to get back home and train after this long stretch. We feel like we showed we belong in the Top 20 and competed at a really high level this weekend. We've got to give credit to Clemson, they put on an amazing regatta."

Competing in seven-team races across three boat classes, the GU Varsity 8+ crew of Karly Dougherty, Kara Soucek, Ingrid Stansberry, Isabelle Belzil, Devyn Bell, Brooklyn Beeler, Maddie Turbes, Casey Burt and Olivia Marsh earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 6:35.3, just 1.8 seconds behind third-place Syracuse.

The GU second varsity 8+ crew of Heather Handy, Alexis Legaspi, Clare Manthey, Anna Johnson, Meghan McCallum, Megan Kramer, Madeleine Verspieren, Micailah Donner and Hannah Brown dropped another five seconds from their Saturday afternoon time with a 6:48.3 performance, nearly edging Duke's 6:48.0 for fourth.

In the Varsity 4+ boat of Laura Brasch, Ashley Patterson, Natalie Potts, Amelie Tristant and Shaylee Kieffer, Gonzaga improved five seconds from Saturday afternoon with a time of 7:32.3 to finish fourth.

After three straight weekends of competition, the women's crew team will now enjoy a nearly four-week break until the West Coast Conference Championship back at Lake Natoma, Calif., on Saturday, May 16.
