MGOLF Fahy Ready for NCAA Regionals

SPOKANE, Wash. - James Fahy tees off as the first Gonzaga men's golfer to compete in the NCAA Championships Thursday morning. The senior was selected as an individual qualifier for the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships.

Fahy opens the first of three rounds at a regional tournament on the Olympic Course at the Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., Thursday morning at 9:50.

"Heading into this season, making regionals was a goal of mine and to do it in my senior year is very exciting," Fahy said. "It's nice going to a golf course that I've played before as well. I'll have a general idea of what to expect going into the tournament. This is an exciting time for both the men's and women's programs representing Gonzaga in the postseason."

Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 14-16. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.

The finals will be conducted May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida. South Florida is the host institution for the 2015 championships.

"We're very excited for James," Gonzaga men's golf head coach Robert Gray said. "He's been a strong addition to the program since he arrived on campus, and this is a great opportunity in his final year. While it's nice to go to new places, Gold Mountain GC is very familiar to him, and gives him the best opportunity to advance to nationals."

This season, Fahy was selected All-West Coast Conference for the second time in his GU career. He received the honor in 2013, after finishing second at the conference championships. In 2014-15, the Vancouver, B.C. native boasted a team-best 72.96 round average, and had a trio of top 10 finishes. He has a 74.22 career average after appearing in 114 rounds for the Bulldogs.

Fahy was also a member of the WCC All-Academic Team in 2013 and 2015. The business administration major boasts a 3.26 GPA this academic year.

The Olympic Course at the Gold Mountain Golf Club is a par-72 that will be played at 7,115 yards. Fahy opened this season on the same course, and tied for 27th, finishing seven-over-par (223). He has played the course in six different events while at Gonzaga. Through the 16 rounds, he has averaged 74.25 per round. His best finish in an event on the course was placing second at the 2013 West Coast Conference Championships at two-under (214). Fahy carded a personal-best on the course, 68 (-4), in the final round of that event.

Fahy, along with the rest of the field in the regional, play a practice round on the course Wednesday.
