2015-16 SCHEDULE

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga men's golf team released their 2015-16 schedule Wednesday. The Zags play in 10 events during the upcoming season, beginning with the Saint Mary's Invitational on Sept. 14.

The Bulldogs are coming off of record-breaking season in 2014-15. After a great start to their season in the fall, Gonzaga climbed to the highest official ranking in program history at No. 65 by Golfweek. The Zags welcome back a great deal of experience, and look forward to the slate ahead.

"Once again we'll have a very competitive schedule for the upcoming season," GU Head Coach Robert Gray said. "Each year we work to keep it very competitive while mixing in some new events so we can see a variety of course conditions over the course of the season."

The Zags open in Carmel, Calif., at the Saint Mary's Invitational. They then head to the Husky Invitational following week. Gray notes these two season-opening tournaments, as the strongest of the fall slate. A trip to Overland Park, Kan., marks the third event of the season. Gonzaga makes its first ever appearance at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Missouri-Kansas City, on Oct. 12-13. The fall schedule wraps up with a return to the Ka'anapali Classic from Nov. 6-8.

The Zags are back in the talented field at The Prestige at PGA West. The event has brought together some of the best programs in the country each year, and GU opens its spring schedule with the tournament on the Greg Norman Course on Feb. 15. Gonzaga will stay in the Palm Springs area and make its debut in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate just a day after finishing The Prestige on Feb. 19.

On March 6-8, the Bulldogs host the Bandon Dunes Championship for the seventh straight season. The tournament has rotated between the resort's four beautiful courses on the Oregon coast the past six years. This season, the championship will be played on the Bandon Trails Course.

Gonzaga returns to Oregon on March 21 for the two-day Northwest Classic hosted by Oregon State. It's another first-appearance for the Zags in the classic played at the Willamette Golf Club in Canby, Ore.

The Bulldogs then make their annual appearance in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Ariz., on April 4. GU had a stellar outing at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic last season. The Zags fired a 277, 11-under-par in the second round, and were 17-under (559) through two rounds, before placing fourth in the at 17-under (847).

The Zags have appeared in the event in each of the past six years. They won the tournament in 2013 by six strokes. Senior Sean Walsh is coming off back-to-back top-10 finishes in the classic, including an eighth-place ending last year.

The 2016 West Coast Conference Championships will be played on the Lakes Course at the Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, Calif., on April 18-20. The Zags placed seventh at the 2015 championships.

Last season, the Bulldogs posted the record team low through 36 holes, and were just two strokes short of tying the 18-hole and 54-hole records. They did set the lowest 18, 36, and 54-hole records for score in relation to par. GU's head-to-head record was also the best in program history and the Zags had seven top-10 finishes as a team in 2014-15.

"Coming off our best year in program history, I'm excited to get the team on campus and prepare to compete in these great events to continue that trend," Gray said.
