MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Valerie Sanderson's header in the 102nd minute gave Memphis women's soccer a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Gonzaga Saturday. It was the first-ever meeting between the programs.

The late goal came on Memphis' 14th shot in the Zags' (1-5-4) final non-conference game of the season. It was the sixth overtime contest in GU's 10 games already this season. It was the fifth double-overtime match for the Zags. In comparison, Gonzaga played three overtime contests last season, four in 2013 and two in 2012.

Just over a minute into the second overtime, the Tigers' Catherine Levasseur drove a long ball into the box. The Bulldogs' goalkeeper Christie Tombari tipped the ball, and Sanderson headed it into the back of the net.

Tombari was stellar Saturday. The redshirt junior finished with seven saves. She punched a header by Marissa Duguay over the bar midway through the first half. Then in the second half, Sanderson was denied when Tombari prevented her shot from going over the line. Tombari has made 24 saves over the past three games and now has 219 in her career.

Eight of Memphis' 14 shots were on goal. The Tigers (5-3-1) took half of their shots in the first half. Gonzaga took five shots in the game, placing three on frame. Memphis also had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sanderson took a game-high five shots, while Levasseur took three. Both had two shots on goal. Sanderson scored her fourth goal of the season. Levasseur's assist was her third of the season.

Five different Zags took a shot in the game. Heather Johnson, Kristin Hayman and Aliyah Miller each had a shot on goal.

Gonzaga opens West Coast Conference play against No. 6 BYU Thursday. The Cougars (7-1-1) and GU are scheduled to start at Luger Field at 4 p.m.
