SPOKANE, Wash. â€" In another hard fought match, Gonzaga's men's soccer team took a 1-0 loss on the road at UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev., on Sunday.
Just four minutes into the second half, UNLV notched the lone goal of the game to give the Zags an even 4-4-1 record on the season. GU outshot UNLV 13-6 in the game and earned six corner kicks to just two for the Rebels.
"That was a tough game to lose," head coach Einar Thorarinsson said. "They are a good team, but we had some good shots. Conditions were tough with the heat, but the guys played hard and didn't give up. We just couldn't score. We have to do a better job of attacking in that type of environment."
Graison Le led the Zags with three shots while David Sigurdsson, Denis Kalamar and Jakob Granlund tallied two each. Christo Michaelson and Colton Cavey notched the lone shots on goal for the Zags, who created opportunities, but couldn't find the back of the net.
Gonzaga's defense continued to shine, marking the eighth game in nine outings while giving up just one or fewer goals.
UNLV was also the fifth NCAA Tournament team from last season that the Zags have faced in their non-conference season. The game also marked the first of six in a row on the road for Gonzaga.
Next up for the Zags is a matchup at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. The match is slated to start at 4 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
