SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga women's soccer outshot Seattle University, but was unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 setback at Luger Field Friday.

The Zags (1-2-1) had a 13-11 edge in shots in the match, but placed only two on frame. Six of Seattle's 11 shots were on goal. Gonzaga's Christie Tombari made a season-high five saves, while her counterpart, Brianna Smallidge, made two.

Kyla Danforth scored her first collegiate goal in the 15th minute. The freshman settled a loose ball off a GU defender and struck it to the far post just out of Tombari's reach. She was a few steps outside of the six-yard box.

The Bulldogs had a 6-4 advantage in shots in the opening half, with both shots on goal coming in the first 45 minutes. The Redhawks (3-2-0) placed three shots on goal in the first half. SU did take four of their seven corner kicks in the first stanza. Gonzaga finished with eight corner kicks.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Tombari made the save of the game. The redshirt junior leapt into the air and punched away a strike from Seattle's Karli White. That shot followed a short flurry of opportunities for the Zags. Sarah Carter and Jodi Ulkekul both took shots at the Redhawk net in a two-minute span.

Heather Johnson led the Zags with three shots. She and Ashley Aberton had the shots on goal for GU. Sydney Anderson took two shots off of the bench. Summer Mason and Julia Moravec both took three shots for Seattle.

Tombari is two saves from moving to seventh all-time at Gonzaga. She now has 179 in her career. Johnson is fifth all-time with 150 shots, five away from fourth.

Gonzaga welcomes Utah State (3-2-0) Sunday. The Aggies fell to Iowa, 2-1, in Missoula, Mont., Friday. The Bulldogs hold a 5-1-0 all-time advantage over USU. Sunday's game is scheduled to start at noon at Luger Field.
