Sept. 8, 2015 SPOKANE, Wash. -- Recent Gonzaga women's basketball graduate, Sunny Greinacher, has signed with Herner TC in the German First Division.
The club team is 30 minutes from Greinacher's hometown of Essen, Germany. The team placed second in the league last season, and looks poised to make a run for the title this season. Greinacher and her teammates are currently in Poland practicing twice a day and preparing for the upcoming season.
Greinacher, a three-time academic All-Conference recipient, graduated with an undergraduate degree in psychology. She was named First Team All-West Coast Conference for the second straight season in 2015, after being named to the All-Freshman team in 2012 and honorable mention in 2013. She was also tabbed WCC All-Tournament Team twice, and to the NCAA Tournament Spokane Regional All-Tournament team.
In 2014-15, Greinacher averaged a team-best 14.1 points per game, while grabbing 6.2 rebounds per outing. She made 48 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free-throw line.
During the Bulldogs' run through the NCAA Tournament, Greinacher averaged 18.3 points and eight rebounds per contest. In the WCC Tournament, she averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds.
Greinacher enjoyed a fun-filled summer after finishing her Masters of Education in school counseling last spring. After graduation, she went on an unexpected trip to Egypt.
"It was only for one week and it was super spontaneous," Greinacher said. "My boyfriend and I literally went to the airport and asked for a good last minute deal. We ended up flying to Egypt the same day. It was amazing. We got to swim with dolphins in the Red Sea and went on a quad tour through the desert."
Greinacher also spent part of the summer playing for the German national team. After practicing twice a day for a couple of weeks in Berlin and Heidelberg, the team played a tournament in China. Competing against Puerto Rico, Italy and China, Germany lost only to the hosts. They took second in the tournament.
