Second-Half Surge Pushes Gonzaga past Pacific 71-61

STOCKTON, Calif. - Gonzaga used a big second-half run to get by Pacific on the road, 71-61, on Saturday at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton, Calif.

Kyle Wiltjer led the Zags with 23 points, while Eric McClellan added 19. Domantas Sabonis had his 11th double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. Gonzaga outshot Pacific 45.1 percent to 31.1 percent, and outrebound the Tigers 44-38.

Gonzaga used a 23-6 run over a nine-minute stretch in the second half to go from down five to up 12 and break open a tight game on the road. During the stretch, McClellan and Wiltjer came up huge on both ends of the floor.

McClellan started the run with six straight points and Wiltjer finished it with 10 of the last 12 including a pair of huge threes and an offensive rebound tip-in.

In the first half, Gonzaga took an early 8-4 lead after a Wiltjer tip-in, the pushed it to as many as six at 13-7 on a jumper by McClellan. The Zags led 21-16 before UOP got back-to-back buckets to close within one at 21-20. The teams traded buckets over the last four minutes of the half to go in 26-25 in favor of Gonzaga at halftime.

The Gonzaga win marked the 10th straight time the Zags have followed up a loss with a victory. That streak dates back to midway through the 2013-14 season.

Gonzaga will be back at home after a pair of WCC road games when they host Santa Clara on Thursday at 6 p.m. and San Francisco on Saturday at 5 p.m.
